Developing Instructional Materials
There was way too much information crammed into this chapter. My mind is reeling from it all. I really feel overwhelmed with information now.
The self paced instruction had the most impact because of the website. It made me question if I have enough in it. It talks about all the additional things to go with the module-including worksheets, study guides and exercises. I'm racking my brains trying to think of what else I could include.
The part about the audio-tutorial method designed by Postlethwait brought back memories of my community college biology class. It utilized this method, but we had to do it at the school library. I like this web-based class better because I can sit at home.
I was also interested in what was said about small-group formats. The nature of my targeted audience pretty well guarantees that face-to-face sessions will be small group. Even in a residential school for the deaf there can be so many different levels that large group instruction would probably not be feasible. I like the idea of games. If I was going to do a complete unit I would probably design a game board to reinforce the interview segment that my web page deals with. Also some kind of a computerized game would be neat if I had a software designer. An online course in visual basic would be an advantage for such purposes.
